PUBLIC SERVICE ASSOCIATION.

A meeting; of the General Committee of the Canterbury section of the Public Service/Association was held on Monday. Thero was a good attendance, and Mr H. S. Cordery," chairman of the section, presided. A report in connexion with social rooms was presented. It stated that there was every possibility of the Government allowing the use of the present Land Board room in the old Provincial Buildings as a billiard and social room, and another large room as a committee and writing room. This was considered most satisfactory. It was decided to use every effort to get members of the Police Force to join the Association now that there was no prospect of their being able to form an association of their own. In connexion with the forthcoming election of the members to .the Superannuation Board it was decided to ask members to vote for Messrs H. \V. Bishop* G. Allport and J. W. McDonald. It was reported that arrangements had been made for swimming races, including contests between teams representing the Post and Telegvaph and Railway Department and the Jocal banks. The matter of the annual dinner of the section was brought up. Ar-' rangoments had been made to hold thefunction in connexion with the official opening of the new Government Buildings, but as this had so long been delayed and no information could be got as to when the opening would T)e performed, it was resolved to hold the dinner on the night of Saturday, 4th April, and to invite the Cabinet to be represented by one of the members. A long discussion took place in connexion with the Cash Purchase Association, and it was ultimately decided to ask delegates from the Railway and the Post and Telegraph "Departments to meet representatives of tlm branch, and to endeavour to put matters on a more satisfactory basis and' establish a fresh institution. It was decided to hold a special meeting of the committee on the 23rd inst.. to consider matters of importance. >,
