Flora Macdonald has been, an absentee from the tracks for some days. Word has been received* that C Emerson's case, which was referred back to tho Canterbury Park Club, who originally disqualified him, was reopened on Monday, and has again been referred back to the Australian Jockey Club.

The respective handicappers at Wanganui and J>i|nedin are divided in their opinion as to Tjitnhauser'e capabilities. In tho Wanganui Cup, over one and three quarter miles, lie is receiving 161b from Kilrain, and 121b from Bon Ton, while in the Damedin Cup, over a mile and a half, ho is getting 71b lrom both Kilrain and Bon Tor. .

Daylight Bi.l and Sunbeam were given a run once round over the schooling hurdles to-day. The former gave his usual bold display; he is a very big and quick iun:per, if inclined to be a bit reckless at present. Sunbeam jumped much better than he has done previously, and when he has gained confidence will be a useful hurdler, as ho has a lot of pace and stays fairly well. They are both enrogncl nt T>uncf!>>.. and will be Mr I* , - Rutherford's only representatives there. The Akaroa County Racing Club's Annual Meeting is an exceedingly popular gathering with racegoers, and the nominations received show that it makes a strong appeal to Canterbury owners ot gallopers and trotters. In every event the nominations are well in excess of last year's numbers, and the T.st should easily constitute a record for the- ciub. There are seventeen engaged in the Peninsula Cup, including Tiirax, Tannhauser, Scotch Melody, Canute. Guome, Respond, and Glenfiniian. The totals for the other races are:— Hurdle Handicap 11, Maiden Plate 22, Kinlcch Welter IS, Terawrra jH-aek Handicap 27, Fojjyth Flying Handicap 17, Waihora Park Trot 37. Wairewa Trot 27. '

The acceptances received last evening for the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's February Meeting, which takes place on Saturday next, promise some interesting racinj. In one or two of the slower class races there is a greater proportion of withdrawals than usual, but the scratching in. the principal events are very few. Only three horses have been withdrawn from the Parliamentary Handicap, and two each from the Stewards' Handicap and Members' Handicap ( while all those handicapped for the Speedwell Handicap have bren paid up for. Particular interest will attach to the Stewards' Handicap, as apart from tho fact that the field includes tho fastest horses engaged at the meeting, the experiment is being tried of handicapping and starting this event by distance instead of by time.
