A sensation was caused at the Home Office enquiry into the Senghenydd pit explosion by Foreman Davies, who said be had examined the pit a few hours previously and found an explosive gas, but had not reported the fact. Despite the Commissioner's warning as to the gravity of his evidence, he added that once before he had not reported a similar discovery.
