EARL GREY'S TRIBUTE

Earl Grey, Toferring to the appointment of Mr Munro-Ferguson, said he considered Australia was most fortunate in having a man of such character, business capacity, and personal charm. He was a supporter of Lord Rosebery's Liberal Imperialism, and a man of marked courage and independence of character. Besides his knowledge of municipal affairs, he would bring a knowledge of scientific agriculture and forestry which would be of the greatest benefit to the Commonwealth if ii cared to use it.
