HILL'S CASE.
Mr Raymond, who appeared for Hill, said Hill was 37 years of age. Be had been 17 years in the Cu.sto.ms Department, and had actod for soveu or eight years as landing waiter. There were 10 charges to which lie had pleaded guilty. His salary iras £200 a year, overtime bringing it up to about £240 a year. About five years ago his wifo was injured in a railway accident, and was still under the doctor's hands. A large amount of the money stolen had Kone in medical expenses, * From what counsel could make out, Hill had no money.
