SUMNER SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
DIFFERENCE WITH. EDUCATION BOARJX ! Tho Sumner School Committee met on Monday. Present —Mr D. Lumsden (chairman), Mrs C. Ferguson, Messrs C. Lawson, M. Laurenson, H. ,\V. Heslop, and J. Lang. Mt C. H. Smith was.elected to fill tho vacancy caused hv the resignation of Mrs E. M. I>eareley. Considerable discussion took plaoo over communications from the Education Board in regard to the new scale of staffing and tho appointment of an assistant master, subsequent.upon tho retirement of one of tho pupil teachers. The committee considered that tho position created by the Hoard was most unsatisfactory, and several warmly oxpressed their feelings. Finally it was resolved unanimously: 'That tho committee takes very strong exception to the decision of the chairman of the Board in not keeping faith with the committee in reference to the appointment of an assistant master; that tho Board be reminded that their letter to the ohninuan, dated December 17th, 1913. distinctly stated that the extension of time granted to Miss Gee must be subject, to'the Department's regulations regarding assistant rmis-ters. We would further point out that this committee only approved of Miss Gee's application for extension of term subject to the new regulations regarding staffing not coming into force. The committee would therefore thank the Board to send the names of applicants recommended by it for the appointment of assistant master/ .
