MIXED MATRIMONY.
♦ (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, January 27. Unusual circumstances were disclosed iv a case at tho .Police Court today in which Ellen Georgina Perrin applied for an order for maintenance against William Perrin. The defence raised the point that defendants first wife was living when he went through the form of marriage with complainant at Hawera. He then described himself Oβ a widower, and stated to his second wife that his first wife had not been heard of for some years, and he believed her to be dead. Three years later, in November, 1893, the first wife appeared in Napier, and Perrin gave her £80 in consideration that she left New Zealand. In 1903 Perrin quarrelled with complainant, and they had not since lived to getber. There were three children of the union, their age» being 14 to 23 yeai-s. In Christchurch recently Perrin produced the certificate of his first morriago in April, 1882. Mr Cutten, S.M.. said he must dismiss the application for maintenance, hut the nature of the defence was such that he could tot allow costs to defendant.
