WAIAU.

The Amuri district in the month now closing has had quite a mild influx of Presbyterian ministers from town, as the ltcv. John Js'ixon has had staying with him the Itov. Thos. Tait, of St. Paul's (Christchurch), and the Her. F. It. Rule, of the Social Service branch of the Church's work. Advantage was taken of their presence to hold special services in the district. Tho Her. T. Tnit preached at "YV'aiau aud at Leslie Hills station on subsequent Sundays., and also conducted two services at Achray station. Kaiwarra station was also visited. The Rev. Mr Rulo preached at Rotherham and Waiau, and also delivered two lantern lectures upon aspects of social service work, which were received with very great appreciation. The Amuri people have always displayed great interest in this work, and have subscribed nearly £1000 i'or the Presbyterian Orphanage. At different times; each of the visiting ministers was the guest of Mrs A. Macfs|rlane. Tho AVaiau Tennis Club is talking now of providing a pavilion on its courts, and is preparing to take an even .larger share- i-«. tho social life of the district than in the past. The record of this club is one of healthy activity from its very start. Five yearJ ago, at the instigation of Mr F. Poison (school teacher), now of Marshlands, the club was formed, and tho construction of tho courts started upon what was a waste piece of unsightly land. With a good deal of fiUing-in a fin© playing area was provided, and one court laid down. A second one was added last season, and now various improvements to the grounds are being carried out. The members of the club are all active players and ■workers, and have made their courts some of the best to be found in conntry_ townships.. Dynamite, fuse, and gelignite have been stolen from the Upper Mason . River road deviation works camp.
