« (By C»bl«/~-Pi««e As.iociation—Copyright-) LONDON WOOL SALES. (Received January 25th, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, January 24. There was a strong Yorkshire demand for all classes of wool. Prices were maintained. Tho best price realised by the Orakei clip was Is l}d, and the average price was 12i>d. * (Received January 26th, 12.15 a.m.) LONDON, January 20. The wool sales closed with prices at tho highest point during the series. Russia throughout has given good support, and tho Yorkshire and American demand has been strong for good shafty 64's. Prices for greasy combing advanced 5 per cent., crossbreds to 7|, finest 10 per cent. Scoureds were tinchanged compared with last sales. Slipes, which were inferior, declined a halfpenny. In view of the relatively low level of value of tops ai-d yarns tho keen demand for wool surprised tho trade. The hosiery industry, however, is very prosperous, an.l merino fabrics are in strong demand. A large depletion in stocks of tops is expected before March, and a good American demand for crossbreds in the coming months. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following cable message from its London.office:—Tho sales have closed firm for all kinds of wool. There is a good demand for all kinds of crossbred wool. Total quantity held over, o'OOO bales, of which 1500 are Now Zealand. Curreut prices for North Island farmers' lots:—Coarse crossbreds, 3b"s40's quality, average condition, 10d to IOJd per lb: medium crossbreds, 44's4o"s, quality average condition, IOJd to lljd >per lb; fine crossbreds, 50's quality, average condition, lid to 12d per lb. Current prices South Island farmers' lots (Canterbury style):—lnferior merinos, common 6O's-64's quality, average condition, 11 Jd to 12d; superior merinos, super <30's-64's quality, averago condition, 12d to 13d; half or quarterbrcd o6's quality, average condition, 12d. Tho New Zealand Farmers' Co-opera-tive Association, Ltd., adviso having received the following cablegram from their London office, dated January 23rd: —"Wool sales closed to-day, and prices, as compared with closing rates of last series, are:—Fine and medium crossbreds, 7i per cent, higher; coarse crossbred, 2$ to 5 per cent, higher; merino, par to 5 per cent, higher. Market very firm."
