THE FERRY SERVICE.

A TARANAKI COMPLAINT. (SPECIAL TO "THE PKES3.") NEW PLYMOUTH, January 23. A matter of considerable importance to Taranaki as a whole, and to the whole of tho district north of Wanganui, was introduced at a meeting of the Stratford Chamber of Commerce, namely, the alleged unsatisfactory ferry steamer service from Lyttelton to "Wellington? It was stated that frequently the ferry failed tc connect with tho "VVelJington-Wanganui-New Plymouth express. Thus not only were passengers from the South Island to Taranaki forced to occupy an extra day on the journey often at very great inconvenience, owing to tho absolute unexpectedness of the delay, but there was an annoying delay of correspondence and other mail matter. It was argued that there was no reason why steamers such as the Wahine and Maori should not make tho connexion regularly. Eventually it was decided to urge on the Government to endeavour to arrange with the Union Steam Ship Company to expedite the Lyttel-ton-Wellington ferry service, co that the steamers may connect regularly with the Taranaki express trains for the convenience of the passengers and the mail services.
