TIMES CHANGE.
SHEARERS AND MOTOR-CYCLES. Nothing so true as that times change—the old . order _ goeth and the new comefch in. Particularly is tliis true in the case of the shearer. The old hand is gradually dropping out and is being replaced by a, being of quite a different type. Formerly, the shearer humped his "bluey" in fashion quite romantic, gathered in his scores at a big clip and fought and wrangled his wav through mobs of 50.000 and 60,000 sheep. But now the shearer is quite up-to-date, and uses the best that modern ingenuity can give him. For instance,' in the Amuri district, this year, two shearers created a mild sensation by flashing along from one place to another in a fine motor-cycle and side-car, in which they had travelled all the way from Christchurch. Old-timers will also eadly shake their heads and deplore the decadence of tho old spirit when they read of this further instapce of the change in the type of the shearer. Everybody has a notion that the one aud only ' thing a shearer can do with his chenue when he receives it is to land before, the bar of the nearest hotel and stop there till it is all "liquidated." That was tho way of the old-timer. This is the modern way: A party of shearers descend upon a country. hptel after cutting out a big backblock run. "Boniface" has made, every preparation for both solid and liquid refreshment, and smiles joyously as the shearers line up and call for drinks. The smile is still thero, but has become decidedly sickly when, ten minutes later, with just that one drink aboard, the crowd lifts its "swag" and passes soberly on its way. Certainly times have changed. Sufferers from Rheumatism. Gout. Sciatica, and Lumbago frequently resort to cure-alls and laxatives for relicf — but in vain. Excess uric acid in the blood is the cause of the trouble. RHEUMO is tho one remedy, because it is scientifically compounded to remove the. cause. 2s Cd and Is 6d everywhere. 68
