THE LAND PROGRAMME.
(Receiyed December 24th, 12.5 a.m.) LONDON, December 23.
Mr Lloyd George, speakiitg at Pwllheli, repudiated the idea that the land programme was merely a vote-catching device. For every 20s paid by a farmer in wages, ho paid over 25„ as rent. Ho wanted fair play for all, but the landlord was no more essential to agriculture than a chain to a watch, and tho Government's plan was to place tho parasitic interest last. Tho Tory alternative was taxpayers' money for landlords to build cottages to keep tenants under their thumbs.
Referring to immigration, ho said tho lifeblood of tho country districts was being gradually drained and poured into tho veins of new lands oversea, where labourers wero better treated.
