MASTER CARRIERS' ASSOCIATION.
SAFEGUARDING HORSES AND VEHICLES.
The President of the Master Carriers' Association (Mr Georgo Winstone) informed a reporter this morning that between ninety and ono hundred vehicles were being run by carrying firms on tho waterfront and. in other parts of the city. This morning ho said that in addition to forty-seven volunteer carters put on by the Association during the past day. or two, some of tho regular hands were coming back to work. Of these bis own firm had secured twenty-tour, another big firm had thirteen, and others were getting their drivers in twos and threes. As more returned, the carriers would bring back additional horses from pasture, and jso i provide more vehicles for the work of the city. A large number of horsos and carting vehicles are kept on Queen's Wharf overnight behind a shelter of barricades and under the guard of special police sentries. ' Several of the master, carriers had their stables patrolled laet night and this morning for the first time, the idea boing to counteract tho efforts of tho pickets to dissuade the regular hands from returning.
