(•PZCIAI, TO "THE PRESS.") WANGANUI, November 13. . Farmer special constables are apparently introducing new methods of punishment, "I turned him up and smacked him," said iSpecialnconstable James Henry when. giving evidence at Patea against a little man named William Parker, who was accused of having attempted to provoke a breach of tho peaco on the King's Wharf on Saturday morning. Witness stated that he saw Parker hanging aT>out the wharf .and told' him either to go to Work or get off the wharf. Parker became abusive, and with that Specialconstable Henry caught and smacked him, after which ho nanded defendant over to tho police. Other evidence was ■given that Parker kicked one of the constables. The defendant, in his evidence, stated that he said to the special constable: "Don't you think you are doing wrong here? Would it not be better for you to go back to your own place in tho country?" He denied using obscene language. Parker was fined £5 or ono month's imprisonment. •'•The month will do* mc," he said. . A. AND P. ASSOCIATION RESOLUTIONS. The Wanganui Agricultural and Pastoral Society discussed the industrial crisis in committee, and passed the following resolutions: — "(1) That this Association protests against the insulting language of Mr Tregear, who described 'specials' as 'outcast' ecum from the country, , arid recommend that he resign his commission as Justice of the Peace. "(2) That this Association desires to place ou record its appreciation of the stand taken by the Government in tho present industrial crisis, also the action of those who so promptly volunteered their services for that purpose. "(3) That this Association' place on record its appreciation of tho commendably loyal stand taken by . the loc:ri waterside workers in adhering to their principles in the present crisis."
