THE POSITION IN NELSON
(press association telegram.) • NELSON, November 13. The local wharves were again worked by farmers and others comprising the Arbitration Union to-day, without molestation from strikers, who, however, showed.some resentment at the amateur lumpers discharging coal from tho steamer Kennedy. Two young farmers volunteered as firemen for tho bay steamer Kina which was held up owing to a shortage of men and tho Marino Department's permission being obtained, tho vessel sailed. Three seamen left another bay steamer, the Wairoa.
Ihe miners at Puponga "downed tools" in sympathy with tho strike, and those at the North Cape Mine are considering the question of coming out. The stesimer John is delayed at the former place. Arrangements are being made for a systematic supply of wharf labour, each district taking it in turn to supply the necessary men. The Federation Union received' word from Wellington to stand firm, the effect of tho arrest of Federation officers being increased sob'darity.
