PROPOSED CANTERBURY TTSION.

A conference was hold lust night between members of the committee of the Canterbury Automobile Association and country motorists ■with regard to the proposal to form a Canterbury Provincial Motor Union.

There were present—Dr. Simpson (chairman), and Messrs W. Broadway, A. S. C.ark Bon, E. H. James, and D. Crozier (Canterbury Automobile Association), and Norton Francie and N. M. ■ Orbell fWaimate) J GuTnnese (Timaru), and J. Grigg( (Ashburton). Mr Francie eoid the proposal would strengthen the good work of the Canterbury Automobile Association. The country clubs would willingly pay the extra 2s 6d a year that it was considers* would be required. It was thought that the offioere of the C.A C would also bo the officers of the Council, which it was proposed should only meet once in every two months, and there woutd therefore be no need to have an extra secretary.

The Chairman said his committee coneidered that their secretary should net be asked to undertake extra work without being paid for it.

The country motorists cordially agreed that this sliould be done.

Continuing. the Chairman said that two of the members of the sub-committee appointed had not been able to attend, so that no concrete proposal oould be put before the deputation.

It was stated by a member of the C.A.A. that the deputation hnd put matters to them in a different Jight from what they had understood before.

Mr Francis ard Mr Grigg pointed out that the union would make the proposed body a very powerful one indeed.

It waa agreed to caJl a meeting of the Association at an early date to come to a final decision on the matter.
