ASSAULT ON A PRISON WARDER.

(nU'SS ASSOCIATION T_XEG___.) INVERCARGILL, November 1L Tho two prisoners, W. G. Wheeler and A. E. McQueen, were charged at the Police Court to-day with violently assaulting Warder Fuller, with intent to escape. McQueen is serving seven years for attempted rape, and an additional eighteen months for a previous escape. The medical evidence showed that the warder sustained two scalp wounds, with much bruises and laceration, the bone being exposed, and he was not yet fit to resume duty. Tho injuries were inflicted with a tin taper canister filled with lead.

Wheeler pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial, and McQueen, was committed for sentence.
