QUESTIONS IN THE HOUSE.

'«_CTAT, TO "THT_ P-.-S-.") WELLINGTON, November 12. In the House to-day, in answer to Mr Robertson, the Hon. A. L. Herdman (Minister of Justice) said:.' There aro no staff. officers of tho Territorial forces in command of special constables in Wellington. The Government has no information as to the number of Territorials whose services have been accepted as special constables."

The answer given by Mr. Herdman to a question asked by Mr Glover as to why Inspector Mitchell had been transferred from Auckland to Christchurch is as follows: "Superintendent Mitchell has not been transferred from' Auckland to Christchurch." In connexion with this case, it will be remembered that Inspector Kiely, of Christchurch, a few days ago assumed charge of the Auckland Police Force.

Mr Glover has made the following appeal to the Prime Minister: — "Whether he will take immediate steps to bring about a settlement satisfactory tc* all parties of the present industrial crisis, so that the people of the Dominion may again enter upon a period of prosperity, pearce, and happiness." Another strike item on to-day's*order paper was put thre by Payne, apparently as some set-off against complaints against strike sympathisers' wild language"* He asked the Minister of Justice "whether he will take the necessary' steps to restrain members of the Government-Party, alleged to have used inflammatory language, and talked -about turning the guns on the strikers at the present juncture._as-6uch conduct, if it has occurred" is likely to ".flame a certain section of the community, and may. provoke a grave breach of the peace."
