METROPOLITAN SHOW.
JUBILEE EXHIBITION,
,In spito"of tho industrial unrest and the general dislocation of trade during the past'ton days or so, there is no doubt at nil that the Jubilee Show of tho Canterbury Agricultural and Pasioral Association, which will open on the Addington Show Qronnde to- ', day,-will bo worthy, in every way of tho reputation of the Society, Jand of : on« of tho finest districts in tho Dominion. A reforonco to the tables-of -, entries for the past few years, shows ~ that-this year is only beaten hy the great Exhibition Show of 1906 for magnitude, and, given" fine weather, there should bo a good chance of the gate takings exceeding the £1871 taken in 1910, which, bo far, is the record. Tho total entry that stands at the head of the Ust> at preseht is, 2536, which oc>curred in lvO6, as mentionqd abbve, *'. Nevertheless, there should be , a really magnificent display of draught animals, and it is only in tho light , - division that things might be elightly better. The striko has caused a few blanks in the sheep classes, notably Mr 11. D. 1). McLean's {Hawko's Bay) and . .Mr H. D. Vavasour's (Blenheim), but the total defections will be small. Good classes arc noted in the cattle section, nnd the_ Guernsey breed is represented for the first time, whilo the competition in Holstcina is encouraging. A very large spaco has , been given up to implements and machinery, no less than 88,000 square foot in fact, so there should be a display worth seeing hero. The grounds are looking in tip-top orders and soma minor improvements have been .made to add to the convenience of visitors. Patrons will note that tho produce is displayed in the building whero Messrs Moor and Co. used to exhibit, and the old produce shed is used to house industrial exhibits. In addition to the usual features of tho Show, there will be a fine display by the Kennel Club, and the public should not miss the unique display by the bullock teams at 4 p.m. tomorrow, the .vhearing competition at 2 p.m. on tho tamo day, or the jumping events.
