PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

GENERAL ASSEMBLY,

ADJOURNS SINE DIE

The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church which opened at St. Paul's Church last night 3 has'been adjourned sine die. It was at first proposed to adjourn tho Assembly for a week, so that the accommodation arrangements might not clash with Show week, but in view of the present uncertainty of travelling facilities, due to the strike, tho Assembly -will probably not be called together again until next year. Sixteen members of the Assembly were present last night, and the Rev. Dr. Erwin was the Moderator. The Rev. Chas. Murray was appointed acting-clerk of the Assembly in the absence of the clerk. Tho Rev. \T. Tait said he had received a telegram from the Rev. Mr Mackenzie, clerk of the Assembly, advising that he had telegraphed to all clerks of the Presbytery suggesting that in view of the present iinsettled state of affairs, the Assembly should adjourn sine die, the next meeting to be held probably in February next. He had received telegrams from the majority of the Presbyteries -agreeing to the proposed adjournment. He would aecordinely move:—"That_ the Assembly adjourn sine die." it would be more convenient if a date could be fixed, but he did not know whether such date could bo fixed at that meeting. The Moderator explained- that the adoption of the motion would mean that the date oroDosed for next week would be abandoned, and a new date would have to be fixed later on by the officials.

The.Rev:. C. Murray suggested that the meeting micht be" postponed till March next. That would suit the fanners better. The motion was carried, ami it was decided xo inform the officials that the month of February would be inconvenient for Canterourv
