POLICE ARRANGEMENTS.
SPECIAL CONSTABLES
All arrangements in connexion with tho organisation of the police force for active duty in Wellington are going on satisfactorily. Numbers of constables and mounted men aro constantly moving in from tho country, and are unostentatiously consigned to their respective stations as they arrive. A large number of horses have also been collected, and ar© in readiness for mounting constables, if required. The animals are housed near the police station. Shoals of applications are still coming in from persons desirous of enrolment as special constables, and many of those who are making personal application are fine types of physical manhood. No one has been sworn in yet; that will only be done when the need arises for it. Badges printed on a neat white ground with tho words "Special constable" are now ready, and no doubt thero will be a sufficient supply of batons should they be required. The police authorities aro hopeful that thero will be no need for the employment of any persons outside their own force to maintain law and order, but there is no lack of applicants able and willing to come to their assistance.
