NORTH CANTERBURY BOARD OF EDUCATION.
"Probably no worthier colonial ever graced Now Zealand," said Mr T. W. Adams, chairman of the North Canterbury lidiication Board, in referring to the late Sir William Russell yesterday.' Mr Adams moved: —"That this Board places on record its appreciation of the long and valuable services rendered by the late Sir William Russell and the feeling that the country has sustained a very great loss in. his death." Mr J. Studholme eaid that ho had enjoyed the great privilege of persona! acquaintance with Sir William Russell. Nobody who knew the lato statesman could fail to get a truer conception of the meaning of the word gentleman. Mr Collins said that Sir William Russell had been a courteous, kindly frentlernan. always willing to do anything in his power in the 6Crvicc of the country. Tlin motion was carried, tho members standing.
