WAIMAKARIRI EWER BOARD.

The South Waimakariri River Board met yesterday. Mr N. K. Bowden pres:d.ng.

The Chairman referred to the death of Mr Glanville, a member of the Board, and on his motion a resolution of sympathy with the late Mr Glanville's relatives was carried.

Pursuant to notice, Mr Spencer moved that the wages of the men in the employ be fixed at 8s Gd per day. Mr C. Burgess seconded the motion! Mr W. E. Samuels proposed as an amendment that the pay should be 9s per day.

Mr E. Smith seconded the amendment.

The Chairman said he would support the amendment. Tho men employed by the Board were required for dtitv at all hours, and 9s a day was only a "fair wage. If anything the Board's men should be paid more than what tho men of other local bodies were paid. Mr H. E. Peryman said he would support the 8s Gd. He did not think the Board should pay more than other 80-nrds were paying at present. Mr C. H. A. T. Opie, who supported the amendment, said that the men we-e fully entitled to the 9s from the value of their work, and the increased cc-t of living. The amendment was carried.
