CADET EQUIPMENT.
CBPBCTAL TO "THB Pit—?.") WELLINGTON, September 3. In the House to-day, in reply to a series of questions by Mr Wilford, the Alinister of Defence said that head teachers had been instructed to return to the Department's store the equipment on issue to Cadet corps. They had also been informed that in the case of a corps being disbanded, any pupils who wished to purchase jerseys or haversacks could do so, and that tho proceeds of such . sales were to be paid into the public account. No authority had been given by the Department to any head teacher or other persons to deul otherwise with the proceeds. If any such case came under notice, the necessary action would bo at once taken. The Department had not authorised, and had no information regarding, the burning of model rifles, as had been stated. The Defence Department had communicated with the Education Department, and had received a reply about model rifles. As a record was kept of all Cadet equipment, including model rifles, the Education Department was in a position to account for all model rifles on issue to Cadet corps.
