WANGANUTS EXPORT TRADE.
♦ INADEQUATE HANDLING FACILITIES. (BPKCTAI. TO "THB FREW.") WANGAXn, September 2. The necessity for improving the facilities for handling Wanganui's export trade has been engaging the attention of local authorities for some time past, and w-ith a view to further emphasising the need of something being done quickly to cope with the traffic, it was stated aVthe meeting of the Chamber or Commerce that Messrs Hatrick and Company had informed tbc River Trust that they anticipated a thousand bales of wool would come from a new district about 35 miles above Pipiriki during the coming season, and that two thousand bales would come down the river from the same point during the following year. , . . The district referred to is just being opened up, and generally speaking the development of the river is proceeding in a rather remarkable manner from a commercial standpoint, therefore the river ia proving itself a great asset, but the facilities for handling the produce are very primitive. Tne Chamber decided: —"That the executive enquire into the present conditions that obtain in Wanganui in handling wool and other exports that come down the river, and into the export facilities generally, and ascertain what can be done to improve same."
