COUNTY COUNCILS.
• AKAROA: , The monthly meeting of the Akaroa County Council was held at Duvauchelle on Saturday. . Present:—Messrs J. D. Bruce (chairman), F. Williams, J. R. Thacker, J. Newbegin, C. B. Thacker, and E. Hay. The chairman reported that, in company with Mr J. O. Coop, chairman of the Wairewa j County Council, ho had waited on Mr Rhodes regarding the Red John's gully dispute between the two Councils. Mr Rhodes had decided that each County held equal rights in all respects, not metal only. A request from the Pigeon Bay Road Board for a subsidy towards building two bridges in Holmes Bay was deferred till next meeting, pending I further information. On the motion of IMr C. B. Thacker, a rate of 3-16ths of ia penny in the £ was struck for the I year 1913-14, and a special rate of j l-15th of a penny in the £ for the Wainui wharf rating area. A further rate !of 5-32nds of a penny in the £ was struck for the Onawe wharf and road rating area. Tho chairman reported having approached tho Minister for Public Works regarding a subsidy for Onawe flat road, apd was-given to understand that it would be granted. He further stated that he could,not procure a loan for Robinson's Bay wharf under 6\ per cent., which was" out of I the question. It was ultimately doj cided that grants of £50 each be made Ito Robinson's and Le Bon's Bay districts towards the construction of 1 wharves. Mr Sbcnherd's tender for spawlin'g metal on Long Bay road waa accepted at 3s per yard. The chairman gave a resume of the business of the - New-Zealand Counties' Conference, for whien he was thanked.
