SUPPOSED MISHAP NEAR WELLINGTON HEADS.
FOUR OR FirE MEN UNACCOUNTED FOR. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TKLEGRAH.) WELLINGTON. September 1. Tho police received information late yesterday that a launch had disappeared off Lyall B.iy. It was stated that the launch, towing a dinghy, was seen approaching from tho direction of llough-t-on Bay. It was seen to disappear and reappear several times, and finally disappeared altogether. One man was seen later on a rock, from which ho was washed after regaining it several times. Later. Tho police have ascertained that a launch with lour men on board anchored off Houghtoii Bay on-Saturday night. ' The crew apparently were wnable to make a landing. It is now reported that Charles Deal, n tiixH'iib owner, has not returned home since Saturday, lie recently purchased a largo launch with a view to entering the fishing triuie. A man who wns recently mate, on the steamer Kalm joined him in the venture", anil he, with two or tiiree others, went out on Saturday to fish oif Palliser Bay. They have not returned.
