SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP.
SATURDAY'S GAMES,
There was not a great deal of interest taken in the matches at Lancaster rark on Saturday afternoon, and there was only a small attendance of the public. Old Boys annexed the Senior Championship by defeating Maris'ts, and although the ball was thrown about very freely at times, the game on the whole was not productive of anything in the way of startling play. .The Linwood forwards proved much too solid for Christchurch, and the Greens had a comfortablo win. The Albion-Sydenhani game proved a- close and exciting tussle, and Albion were somewhat fortunate in being returned winners. On the iNorth Park Merivnle romped over Canterbury College to the tune of 25 jx>ints to 3. The following table shows tho position of the various teams: —
OLD BOYS (19) v. MAKISTS (8). Old Boys and Marists occupied the Oral at Lancaster Park to-day, but the sides were unevenly matched, and though the £ame wns fast, the foothali played was not up to the standard. i'roin the kick-off the Greens attacked but play had not been in progress many minutes when H. Taylor removed play* to the other end of the field, and from a passing rush Hickmott scored wide out. Bain failed to convert. Old Boys 5, Marists nil. The Whites "were playing the better football, and after cutting in nicely Crawshaw scored at the corner. of the second spell tho Marists' forwards got to work, and good dribbling by Fanning and McDonald and a nicetacklo by Smytho gave Fanning a chance, and tho big forward scored near the posts. Old Boys 19," Marists 5. From a forward rush Mahony scored tho Greens' second try, but Seabourno failed at goal. Old Boys 19, Marists 8. From this out, play was of an uninteresting nature, and Old Boys won by 19 points (two goals from tries and three tries) to 8 points (a goal from a try and a try). Mr A. Alexander. was reforeo.
