JOTTINGS FOR FARMERS. I am led to believe (writes the Drummond correspondent of tho "Southland Times, , ') that tho crops arc not just quite secured all over Southland yet, although there may have boon harvest homes and thanksgivings ir those districts. Still* those who have been, fortunate enough to seeuro their crop previously have reason to be thankful, and it cannot really make it any worse for those who have not, nor will they grudge seeing their more fortunate neighbours expressing their gratitude. RANGIORA. j An entertainment waa given on Thursday evening by tho members of the Rnngiora Hand of Hope, A good programme, consisting of recitations, vocal and musical items, was given, and a short address by tho Her. TV. Wills. Tho No. 35 Company Senior Cadets held a social in the Drill Hall, Rangiora, ou Thursday evening, to help to raiso funds to defray expenses of sending a team to the military sports at Auckland. There was an attendance of about eighty couples, and tho hall was very nicely decorated. During the evening the members of tho corps took tho opportunity of presenting Quarter-master Sergeant Bates with a s-ilver-rnountod walking-stick and a pair of proves for tho interest he had taken in training tho team for tho Christchurch sports. LINCOLN. The annual congregational meeting ol tho Lincoln Church was hold on Tuesday evening, in the Sunday-school J hall. There was a largo attendance I After the report and balance-sheet had i been discussed, and other business transacted, tht* new commit-too wcro elected. During the evening two presentations were made. Tho first was to Mr Moore, who had so willingly taken the servico once a month in tho Lmcoln Church, while the minister was nway at Tai Tapu. The Rev. S. E. Hill made the presentation, which took I the form of a set of five handsome ! books. Mr Moore suitably responded. i The other presentation was to Mr, Mrs, nnd Master Keith Wallace, on their leaving tho district. Mr Hill, in making tho presentation, spoke of the sterling work done by them while they had been connected with tho congregation. Mr Wallace was presented with a handsome travelling-bag, Mra Wallace with a pe;zfrv bag, and Master Wallace with n silver inkstand. All the articles were suitably inscribed. Mr and Mrs Wallace suitably responded. The congregation wish to tender their hearty appreciation to Mr Bill for the very able manner in which h.-i has done, his work in the district during the year. AKAROA. Tho C.V.C. Troop of Peninsula Territorials held their annual military ball in the Oddfellows' Hall on Thursday evening. Tho hall was tastefully decorated for tho occasion ; and tho floor was crowded to overflowing. Excellent music was provided, and dancing was kept up with spirit till an early hour. In the afternoon the football match between the mounted men and infantry took place, and was won by the latter by 32 points to 11. ASHBURTON. At Mr Stoddart's private hotel, Ashburton, on Thursday Miss Beatrice Walker was presented with a dinner-service by tho boarders, a teaservico by Mr and Mrs Stoddart, and o hot-water bottlo by the Maste/s Stoddart. There was a very large gathering in the Elgin Schoolroom on Thursday night, when Mrs John Brown and family, who are leaving the district, were" entertained at . a social. Mrs Brown was presented, on behalf of the residents, with a hot-water service, and a gold brooch, ladies' dressing-case, and silver-mounted brush 'and comb were presented to members of the family.
