NEW BRIGHTON NOTES.

Tho induction of tho Rev. H. H. Mat.thias to the parochial district of New Brighton, took placo on Thursday evening, by his Lordship Bishop Julius. Tho service opened with the processional hymn 207. Tho churchwardens and. vestry led the. procession, followed by tho boys of tho Church choir (who wero surpliced for tho first time). Then, followed tho visiting clergy, tho Rev. Mr York, tho Rev. Air Dunnage, tho Rev. Air Mortimer and the Rev. Harold Purchas; then tho Vicar-elect followed by tho acting-Chaplain to tho Bishop, the Rev. 11. "Williams, senr., and then his Lordship Bishop Julius. Tho "Y'eni Creator" was sung, all" kneeling, his Lordship asking for tho prayers of tho parishioners for their new vicar. The special Psalms for the occasion were tho 121. 122. 126, tho singing, under Mr W. Wilson's direction, being especially good throughout. His Lordship preached a sermon taking his text from tho xvii. chapter of St. John's gospel, and part of tho 19th verse.

Tho hon. secretary of the New Brighton Beautifying Association acknowledges, with thanks, tho gift of a number of valuablo trees and shrubs from Captain A. W. Owles and Mr W. Edmonds.

- Mr C. H. Winny, Mayor of New Brighton, lias mndo arrangements to bo at the Council Chambers. Nelson street, on public business every Thursday after one o'clock p.m.

A mooting of the New Brighton Library Committee was held on Thursday night when there were present— Messrs C. H. Winny (chairman), 11. Hawker, C. Israelson, A. G. Munns, and W r . Cooper. Mr G. W. Russell, M.P., wrote stating that the Government nublieations would bo posted to tho Library in future. Mr C. Israelson was authorised to purchaso the monthly magazines. A gift of a number of books and magazines was accepted with thanks from Captain A. W. OwV's. ft was stated that the Library row contained over fourteen hundred volumes.
