THAT INVERCARGILL WHISKY.
TO THE EDITOH OF 'TDK PRKSS." Sir. —Vour correspondent asks me to say what I think about the Invercargill Council having ton gallons of whisky. I mjjy say quite frankly that I do not think niiirh of them if it turns out that they did have it. The possession of the whisky is, however, merely n condemnation of the men who had it, not a condemnation of no-license. It is perfectly legal for anyone in Invercargill to have a hundred callous of whisky if he wants to. The word prohibition is a misnomer, for there is absolutely no prohibition in our no-license laws. It is merely that under no-license the usual permits to hell intoxicating liquor are not granted. In conclusion, may I ask your correspondent a question? Every Mayor of Invercargill since no-license came in—Messrs Scandrett, Longuct, and Ott—has testified as to the greatbenefit it has been to the town. If it has not been a benefit, will "Fax" explain why these men, two of whom are not abstainers, said it was.—Yours, G. B. NICHOLLS.
