Bates, Government Meteorologist, supplied the following weather summary and forecast at 5 p.m. yesterday: — The weather has been very cold, and rain hne fallen upon rnoet parts of tlve country, with strong southerly winds, and galee oro still reported on the East Coast of tho South Island, but tho etorin has decrcaeed in inteneity. • Present indications aro for strong eoutheasteily hroozes, cold and changeable weather, and ehowors, especially on the East Coast, and a Tiaing barometer everywhere:
