In view of tho fact that proceedings were pending in "Wellington and Christchurch, ho would ask for an adjournment of the case for a month. In Christchurch tho Union hoped for a risp of 2s 6d in wages, and tho Auckland Union was prepared to stand or fall by the Christchurch award. Tho question of adjournment was put toi tho Council, which was evenly divided, tho employers' representatives opposing tho proposal. Tho question was decided on tho casting vote of the Commissioner, who said he could see no reason for refusing it. It was, no said, very desirable that tho conditions of tho trade should bo as uniform as possible throughout the Dominion. A protest against tho adjournment was entered by the employers' assessors, on' tho ground that their caso might ho prejudiced by tho proceedings iv Christchurch, if they were taken as the basis of a Dominion award.
