THE NEW HEBRIDES.
CONDOMINIUM DENOUNCED
(By C»bt«.—Press Association.—Copyright.) SYDNEY, May 14.
The Presbyterian Assembly carried a resolution expressing regret at the continuance of abuses in the New Hebrides under the Condominium, and asking tho Australian and Imperial Governments to take steps-to stop these injustices.
Tho speakers reiterated the charges against the French of selling liquor to the natives, of wholesale kidnapping, of boating natives almost to dc-ath, and of selling natives to one another. Tho French Government did not make its | subjects koep the law, and no matter I what decision tho Joint Commission might give, it could only bo enforced by the Government officials of the offending party.
The Rev. F. Paton declared that tho Condominium was rotten through and through. It was a disgrace to Britain to hiyvo anything to do with it. Years ago the missionaries could leave their wives on tho islands and they wero safe, but since tho French sold grog to tho natives, white women wero no longer safe.
