FOUR MEN LEAVE WORK.
PLACES PROMPTLY FILLED
O'RESS ASSOCIATION TF.?.r.CKA.tf.\ TIMARU, May 14. A number of Unionists turned up to work the steamer John'this morning. Aftei the dinner hour five of them asked, the agent if" he was awaro that non-unionists were at work. Tho agent said he was not concerned with that question. Four of the five men knocked off, and tho fifth returned to work, saying he needed the money. The places of the four wero promptly filled with free men.
A meat ship, the Kia Ora, is due tomorrow or next day, and curiosity exists as to whether Unionists will offer to work her. If not, there are plenty of firee men' about. Some of these expressed annoyance that Unionists were employed this morning. Both freezing works aro sufficiently manned to sen the season through. Some of the. Unionist butchers havo gone elsewhere. •
