HOISTING THE WHITE ENSIGN

Eight bells struck, and to the straius of the National Anthem, played by tho ship's band on the amidship deck, while every man stood to attention, the great White Ensign fluttered to the flagstaff head on the stein. Two others broke out at the mastheads and tho Union Jack at the bow. Bugles blared their orders, and men doubled along the decks to make ready for going into port.
