A young man, who is living- apart from his wife, w£s brought before tho Magistrate's Court yesterday morning to answer an application which tho wife was making to havo his contribution towards her maintenance increased. It was stated that the man was pay_ing £1 per week to his wife. Mr H. F,/O'Leary (counsel for the' wife): "What are you? The Husband: I am a learner slaughterman. What are your weekly earnings?— Sometimes £2 10s, sometimes £3. ■What is your averageP—About £3. What does your beard cost? —£1. / Then you have £1 left?— Well, I want that for clothing. I had my clothes stolen. You work at Xgabauranrra?—Yes. Do you go under your right name there?— No. You *go about the town with girls, posing as a single man, and isn't it a fa"t that you average over £4 per week? —No. Tt is not. Mr O'Leary then handed in a statement to the effect that on April 9th defendant was paid £3 2 S 9d for the week's work, on Airil 16th £4 5s 7d. on April 23rd £4 14<* 2d. on April 30th £4 3s lOd. and nn May 7th £5 16s lld. Defendant: Well.:.if I was paid it I did not find it in my pocket. Mr W. G. Biddell, S.M.: That will do. Stand down. The order was increased to £2 per week.
