Half-a-dozen of the officers of the battleship H.M.S. New Zealand wero out with the Pakuranga Hounds on Wednesday at Pigeon Mountain, in tho Pakuranga country, and they all got mounts and enjoyed tho sport, though none were finished horsemen by any means. One of the number got knocked off his mount by coming into collision with the limb of a tree, and received a scalp wound, which bled profusely for a time. Nothing daunted, he persisted in going on with the game, and at each obstacle that came in the line of country "let go everything" in contradistinction to his fellow officers, who made good use of the pommels of their saddles and hung on bravely, though some had hair-breadth escapes before the return to the city had to be made. The young sailor had come off six times altogether, and though he treated his injury lightly like a good sportsman, it is feared that he will always carry a wound scar to remind him probably of the first hare and hound run that he waa ever engaged in. It transpires that the bookmaker backed the horse at Melbourne that his agent was laying in Sydney. Tho horse won, and he collected from the Melbourne pen* cillers ami left his Sydney agent without a cent to pay up with.
