MEETINGS AND SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
The ordinary meeting of tho Loyal Phillip-town Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.U., was held in the Leeds street Ha[l, Linwood, on Tuesday last. The N.G., Bro. G. J. Macdonald, P.G., presided. Sick pay'was passed to two brothers. Bros. J. Cloworth, P.P.G.M., and W. L. Grant, P.G., were appointed delegates to the district meeting. The monthly meeting of the Canterbury Band of Hope Union was held in tho Manchester Chambers on Thursday evening. Mr Cutler presided over a fair attendanco of delegates. A largo amount of business was got through m connection with .the. arrangements for tho annual demonstration to be held in Hagley Park on Easter iuonday. and a number of societies have signified their intention of taking part in the procession from Latimer square to tho Park. Marshals wero appointed, also sports and prizo committees. Tho secretary reported that . the Domain Board had granted tho use of tho Park, and that tho City Council would allow collectors along the lino of march. It was decided to forward a letter of sympathy to Mrs D. Gain and family, the lato Mr D. Gain having been president of the Dunedin Baud of Hopo Union for some years, and always a prominent temperance worker.
