IMPORTED SOUTHDOWN RAMS.
The Remuora, which reached Lyttelton yesterday, has on board two Southdown shearling rams from the flock of Mr C. Adeane, Babraham, Cambridge, England. Thes.. rams are to the order of Mr George Gardner, Riverslea, Medbury, and came consigned to Messrs Pyne and Co., Christchurch. Both rams, Babraham Crown and Babraham. Caird, are by Mr Adeane's noted sire and prize-winner, Babraliam Ciony: Babraliam Crony was in the first prize pen of shearling rams at tho Royal Show in 1909. and was first at the Royal Show, 1910. He was siro of tho 1911 Royal S_ow champion and many other noted winners. He was used at Babraham in 1909, 1910. and 1911. Of tho two rams imported to New Zealand, Babraham Crown won first prize and was reserve for the championship at the Royal Counties' Show. Babraham Caird won first prize and tho championship at tho Oxfordshire Show. Both rams wero used in Mr Adeane's flock this year, and both were the highest-priced shearling rams in his catalogue. Owing to the outbreak of tho foot-and-mouth disease in England, there wero no sheep at the Royal Show" in June last, so any chance the two rams had of giving a good account of themselves there was frustrated. This outbreak, to a great extent, dislocated tho sheep trade also, but Mr Gardner was able to secure an option over them if they could be shipped by a certain date. The embargo was removed just in time to enable this to be done. It is the owner's intention, if all goes well, to exhibit the two rams nt the coming Hawarden Show.
