WELLINGTON, February 6. A return published in the "Gazette" E laces the European population of the 'ominion at December 31st at 1,052,545, an increaso of 27.139 for tho year. On December 31st there wore 2520 Chinese in New Zealand, including 102 females.

Of tho European increase, the excess of births over deaths contributed 18,212, and_ excess of arrivals over departures 892/.

The birth-rate for the Dominion in 1912 was 26.48 per 1000 of mean population, and tho death-rate 8.95 compared with 25.9/ and 9.39 respectively in 1911.
