SPREYDON.
Tho Spreydon Borough Council met last night. Present: His Worship tho Mayor (Mr W. R. Gahagan) and Crs. It. 'Nairn, AY. H. Atkinson, J. W. Bowles, W. H. Winser, T. Thornton, •S. A. Hancock, E. A. Whiting, and tho Town Clerk (Mr M. Woodfiold). The report of tho Works Committeo, which was adopted, set out that it bad been decided to refer tho matter of a stone crusher to the Council; that tho alternative scheme for tho improvement of West Spreydon at a cost of £-1725 should be accepted and arrangements mado for a poll to bo held for the getting of a recreation ground, loan works, and shingle-.pit at the earliest possible date. Estimates for asphalting Roher street, £46 4s; Phinket street, £01 12s; Redruth avenue, £79 14s; a total of £187. It was decided to havo the work put in hand as soon as possible.
The Finance Committee's report, which was adopted, showed: Districtfund account —Receipts £700 1-ls od, debtor bank balance £257 3s Id, accounts £209 lis 9d. Loan account — Receipts nil, debtor bank balance £320 12s 2u, accounts GO os. A recommendation that contributions, as provided in the estimates, should be made to tho Technical College, was approved. On tho motion of the Mayor, it was decided that steps should be taken forthwith to obtain such information as may be available touching the Lake Coleridge scheme from the Public Works Department. A committee, consisting of his Worship tho Mayor, Crs. Winser, Bowles, Whiting and Thornton, was set up to tako the matter in hand.
A resolution was passed, heartily con. gratulating the Mayor and Councillors of Riccarton on the formation of their district into a borough, and wishing them every success and prosperity. Tho Mayor of Riccarton. who was present, thanked the Council on behalf of tho Riccarton Borough Council.
