WELLINGTON, February 5. A fatal accident occurred at i-1 \V Mills and Co. s machinery store in Victoria street this morning, the victim being a married man named James Hauratry, an employee of die firm for over twenty years. Deceased was waiting in the goods lift, which was onerated by electricity. The lift on which there wero several barrels of cement, moved upward without am- warniu" to Hanratty, who was caught" betweeu~the outer edge and the brickwork near the bottom ot the wall. He was dreadfully injured about the body and died in a few seconds. Considerable difficulty was experienced in releasing the body. Ho was about forty years of a-o. , . DUNEDIN, February 5. At the inquest on the body o: Cecil Robert Randall, who died from hemorrhage of the brain on Tuesday morning, the evidence showed that deceased and a cousin named Duncan McGillvray, aged fourteen years were playing on Sunday. McGillvray threw a "tone at a fowl, and bit deceased by mistake. Deceased became ill the next morning, and when a doctor called in was unconscious. An operation was performed as soon as possible, but the lad never regained consciousness. A verdict of accidental death was returned.
