(SPECIAL TO "THE PRESS.") INVERCARGILL, January 19

Oats —Since tbe New Year there has been a little more life in the oats market. Enquiries are more numerous and a numbor of sales havo taken place. As merchants' stocks are in small compass there will bo. little business in this commodity until the new season's crop is available. The following are the ruling prices:—A Gartons tin to Is Hid, A Soarowbills to Is 10|d, with B grado Id* less. Ryegrass—There is nothing doing at present. Chaff—There is very little doing in this commodity at present. Prime chaff is worth from £3 5s to £3 7s 6d, o.t.c.s.

Potatoes —Early potatoes are not coming forward in such large quantities as might be expected at this timo of the year. The crops, however, aro looking extremely well and in a few weeks the market shoiUil bo well supplied. Wheat—Milling wheat is extremely scarce and will be for somo time to come. There is plenty of fowl wheat, but not much business is being done. Prices rule from 2s 9d to 3s to farmers. Fat Cattle—The market for this class of stock is steady and prices remain much about the same as those of last week.

Store Cattle—There is little or no business being done at present. Prices are much the same as last week. Fat Sheer; —This market was only moderately supplied at last Wallacetown sale and as a consequence pricea were very firm. Prices aro likely to remain much about the same:—Butchers' heavy wethers 2os 6d to 26s 6d, lighter '23s to 245, prime wethers (shorn) 19s to 20s, lighter 17s to 17s 6d ewes in wool 23s to 245, shorn 10s 6d to 17s. fat lambs 15s 6d to 16s. Store Sheep—Thero are several linos of store sheep changing hands and with abundance of feed available and a fair demand from the north, prices aro riot expected to improve. Last week s prices aro a criterion of tho market.
