COMPULSORY TEACHING

A deputation of temperance societies waited on Mr J. A. Pease, President of the Board of Education, and asked for tho introduction of compulsory lessons in temperance and hygiene at Board schools.
Mr Peaso sympathised with tho request, but said that tho selection of suu.ects rested with/the local authorises, and urged the societies to endeavour to influence them.
