SHIPPING NOTES.
The New Zealand Shipping Company s steamer Turakina, ou her way from London to New Zealand, left Hobart on Monday, and is due at Wellington on Friday. Her southern passengers' are due here Saturday, and the Turakina will arrive at Lyttelton about Wednesday next. Tho New Zealand Shipping Company s big 9000-ton cargo steamer rlurunui, which i» on her second voyage to New Zealand, arrived at Lvttelton yesterday morning lrom Glasgow and Liverpool, via way ports. Captain E. T. Smith, R.N.K., who ha* succeeded the late Captain J. P. Forsdick, as master of tha Hurunui, has the following officers:—Chief, Mr A. F. Beaton; second, Mt W. T. Point; third, Mr C. -v Sayce; fourth, Mr C. Skilliter. Mr W. W. Jenkinson is chief engineer, Mr W. Prophet second, Mr A. Davidson third, Mr W. Smith fourth, Mr J. Salter fifth, Mr. L. Reid sixth; Mr J. Clark is chief refrigerating engineer, and Mr H. Walker second. The Hurunui' is landing 1000 tons of cargo at Lyttelton. and is to sail on Friday for Dunedin to complete discharging. She will subsequently U>xd wool and frozen meat at New Zealand ports for London.
Tho New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Wakanui is due nt Wellington tomorrow from Wuitara, aud will sail finally on Saturday for London. The Paparoa, due at Wellington this morning from Napier, will also sail on Saturday for London. The Manuka, due at Wellington thin morning, is bringing 148 saloon, and 161 steerage passenger*, including '13 Chinese, from Sydney. She will arrive here Friday morning, and will sail, on arrival of the 4 p.m. train that day, for Dunedin, Bluff, Hobart, and Melbourne.
The Moeraki, due here to-morrow morning from Melbourne, via Hobart. Bluff and Dunedin, will sail, on arrival of the 3.30 p.m. train, for Sydney, via Wellington. The Kamona is to leave Westport early this morning for Wellington. The Kini is to load at Greymouth for Wellington, and the Poherua at the same port probahly for Lyttelton. . . A The Waitemata is to sail to-morrow night for Timaru to discharge the remainder of her cargo of coal. The Taviuni is due here Friday morning with a load of sheep from the Cba.ham Islands. She is to return the same night for another shipment. The Karori from Greymouth and Westport, was to have left Timaru at 10 o'clock last night for 1/yttelton, where she is due this morning. After discharging, she will sail tomorrow night for Westport. The Union liner Makura is due at Auckland on Friday -morning from Sydney, and will leave the "same day for Vancouver, via Suva and Honolulu. The P. and O. steamer Maloja, from London, via Sues _»d Australian ports, is due at Auckland on Friday morning, and will •ail at 5 p.m. the same day on the return ""The new "light at CasUepoiut. on the East Oast between Cape Palliser and Napier, was shown for the first time on Sunday n-.jrht. The Marine Department has been advised that it gave complete satisfaction. The Petone sailed yesterday for Oamaru and Timaru, and is due back to-morrow to
complete loading tor Wellington, Napier, and Gisborne.
Mr 3. McPhee has joined the Haupiri <* second officer, in place ot Mr S. W. Ch-tfie-.u, who has transferred to the Talune. The Kaiapoi river has never been in better condition for the entrance and departure oi vessels than it is at present. The Wootton, with sheep, entered an<l left th.c Waimakariri river on Monday, going in with the afternoon tide and leaving in the evening. . The K_ira_i arrived at Kaiapoi last night from Lyttelton with timber, ar.d the Wootton from Kaikoura with sheep.
