KARORI ROCK LIGHT.
\n order for the automatic apparatus which is'lo be used in the new light on Karcri Rock has been sent Home by the Government, but it is anticipated that the material will not t<? landed in New Zealand for six months (fays the "New Zealand Times''). Meanwhile, however, the Puolic \\orks Denar'jnent will proceed with the construction of the tower, and the work is to bo put in hand at aii early date.. Fortunately, not
much of the rock will need to bo excavated for the foundations. Tho tower will bo erected of concrete, which can easily be mixed on tho beach opposite the rock. Given reasonably line weather, the department expects to have the tower erec'.*d in three months, though a email beacon recenly intstalied in tho north took a year to complete, owing to persistently heavy eeas. The now light in. Cook Strait will be about 2000 candlo povrer, placed at a height of sixty feet, thus giving a visible range of about sixteen miles.
