ENGLAND v. NEW ZEALAND.
TO-DAY'S MATCHES
The British Davis Cup lawn tennis p'.aycrs—C. P. Dixon, F. G. Lowe, J. C. Parke, and A. E. Beamish—will arrive in Cliristchurch this morning. They will be aocomnanied by F. il. B. Fisher, G. Ollivier, R. H. K. Swanston, and W. Goss, the New Zealanders who have been chosen to play against them in the second test match, Britain v. New Zealand.
The first day's play will commenco at ono o'clock this afternoon, and tho play will consist of two singles and a doubles, as follows: —•
P. G. Lowe (Britain) v. R. H. X Swanston CXew Zealand).
J. C. Parke (Britain) v. W. Goss (New Zealand). C. P. Dixon and A. E. BeamLsh (Britain) v. It. H. K. Swanstoa and F. M. 3. Fisher (New Zealand).
Tho "D.ivis Cup court" at Lancaster Park has received a great deal of attention, and it is reported to bo in excellent condition. The fine, warm weather now prevailing will render the surface fast, and tho players will bo provided with an excellent lawn to demonstrate their powers as tennisplayers of the lirst rank. All matches are the best ot five sets. Mr E. J. Ross will act as referee.
The brilliant performances of the Englishmen in the recent Davis Cup matches alone warrant a largo attendance of tennis enthusiast*, but added interest is lent to to-day's matches by the presence of four of tho best players in the Dominion, who have shown in the Australasian championships just concluded that they can fully extend the Englishmen. Special accommodation to seat about 15,000 people has been provided, and in addition to this there will bo plenty of standing room. The bos plan is at tho Dresden.
The reception which was to have been accorded to the British team by his "Worship the Mayor at 11 o'clock this morning has been abandoned, owing to thero not being sufficient time after the steamer arrives.
