THE QUESTION OF PREFERENCE.
MR A. CHAMBERLAIN'S VIEWS,
Mr Austen Chamberlain, writing to a correspondent, says it is obvious that a consultation with the Dominions will be necessary before dealing with the details of preference. "Wo make no more pretension to fix colonial duties," adds Mr Chamberlain, "than the Dominions do to fix ours, but I believe that a commercial union would he mutually advantageous. I. believo that an agreement could bo arranged when tho Unionists aro in power."
The "Spectator" says the latest estimates of Unionist members and candidates anxious to press for food taxes show that they havo been reduced to a bare handful.
