A ' Press Association message from Auckland states that after tho Pon.sonbY Hurdle Race yesterday tho connections of Golden Loop wore called before the stewards to explain that horse's running on tho opening day. A satisfactory explanation was given, and tho judge's ruling was allowed.to stand.

The judge's decision in the Bowon Handicap at. Auckland yesterday excited some disapproval, tho margin between Worcester., and Peg being very narrow. Our co-respondent telegraphs: —There was a hostile demonstration at tho judge's decision from people who viewed the race from the grandstand, and showed bad form by hooting tho official. It was a close finish, and tho judge was in tho best position to see. Provided the present spell of fine weather holds, tho Canterbury Park Trotting Club's Summer Meeting, which takes place to-morrow and on Thursday, promises to bo ono of tho most successful yet held by the club. Tho increased stakes have attracted horses of a good class, and excellent fields aro engaged in all the events on tho card. The '. improvements which have recently been carried out havobrought the club's property up-to-date, and the accommodation provided should amply meet tho requirements of tho public. A .cable message from Launceston states that tho Newnham Jumpers' Flat Race, of one mile and a half, was non by tho New Zealand-bred niaro Nightlight, by Stepmak—Starshot. Dream was second and Viee-Roine third; There wero four starters, Nightlight winning by a length from 3>reain, who was, a length and a half in front of ViceReine. The winner ran tho distanco in 2min 35sec.

The racehorses Carolus, Veritas, Coutiterminc and Tiiremo were brought back from Dunedm by the first express yesterday R. Longley will leave for Oamaru today with Aimwell and Pleasure Kent, while It. Mis will go south with Warand will assist at tho North Outgo Jockey Club's Summer Meeting.
